After starting her career at the age of 16, Lita Ford has become one of the most iconic women in rock n' roll. Actually, she was one of the FIRST women in rock n' roll. She began as a member of the first all girl rock band The Runaways, whose other members were, most notably, Joan Jett, Cherie Currie, Sandy West, and Jackie Fox.
Lead guitarist for the band from 1975 until they disbanded in 1980, Lita definitely gained attention from the media. Her real break, however, came slightly later in the 80s as a solo artist. After moderate success with the albums "Out for Blood" and "Dancin' on the Edge", Lita released her next full length album "Lita" in 1988. The album went on to become her most commercially successful album. With Sharon Osbourne as her manager, and once again producing it herself, the album featured the hits "Kiss Me Deadly", "Back To The Cave", "Falling In And Out Of Love" co-written with Nikki Sixx, and "Close My Eyes Forever", a duet with Ozzy Osbourne. "Close My Eyes Forever" reached #8, making it her only Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hit.
Over the next decade or so, Lita released four more albums. As of May 2011, Lita has promised a "real comeback album" later this year. According to a recent interview, Lita said that she's "writing a new record. It's just about done, I just got an mp3 of a track, my producer's mixing it, just finished mixing it." She continued saying, "It's really heavy, really great stuff. I'm really excited about it."
Another Interview with Lita:
I'm sure if you're anything like me, you can't wait to see what The Queen of Metal has in store for the new album. I guess we shall see......
