Where Are They Now? Evanescence

Five years since their last album, Evanescence will be releasing their 3rd studio album on October 4, 2011. If (you have been living your life under a rock) and aren't familiar with the band, they were founded by lead vocalist Amy Lee and former lead guitarist and songwriter Ben Moody. The band released their debut album, Fallen, in 2003. With hits like "My Immortal" and "Bring Me To Life", over 17 million copies of the album were sold worldwide. In 2006, they followed up Fallen with their sophomore album, The Open Door, which included the singles "Call Me When You're Sober" and "Lithium".
Their musical style has been described by different critics as some form of goth rock. Amy Lee has said, "We're definitely a rock band, but the twist is that the band's music is epic, dramatic, dark rock." On a personal note, I just have to say that as dark as the music itself is, Amy Lee's vocals are equally haunting and beautiful. As far as I'm concerned, she is one of the greatest rock vocalists of our generation.
Talking about the upcoming album, Lee stated that she wrote some of the songs on harp including the ballad "Secret Door" and "My Heart Is Broken". Another song, "Oceans", "starts with a big, low synth and a vocal, then the band kicks in," says Lee. "It's big and lush. We've been having a lot of fun playing that one especially." Concerning the theme of the album, Lee also said, "I get inspired by nature. The ocean's been a theme. Brokenness has become a little bit of theme, without necessarily offering a solution."
After undergoing numerous lineup changes, the band's current members are Amy Lee (lead vocals, piano), Terry Balsamo (lead guitar), Troy McLawhorn (rhythm guitar), Tim McCord (bass), and Will "Science" Hunt (drums, programming).
